Issue 14

When I started planning this issue back in icy December, I wanted to explore the concept of love from a unique Covent Garden perspective. We all know the good, bad and the ugly sides of love, but what about the historical, mystical and peculiar? We’ve got you covered.

Honouring the community who live and work here, we spent many hours pacing the cobbled streets asking them what their idea of love is in the context of Covent Garden. The results are positively life-affirming.
Few people know the area better than our cover artist, Vince Ray of Rockabilly fame, thanks to a career of painting, gigging and partying hard over the last few decades. The beguiling fortune-teller came about as we discussed the challenges of love and what we’ll do to find it.

For a look at the history of romance, we asked Sotheby’s Head of Jewellery Justin Roberts to explore how tokens of affection from times gone by can hold just as much sentimental value to buyers today.
Elsewhere, Mick O’Hare takes a gander at one of life’s more unconventional relationships, as Punch and Judy ‘professors’ descend on Covent Garden this spring for the May Fayre and Puppet Festival.

Lastly, we are lucky enough to have £1000 worth of competitions and giveaways this issue. Please follow us on Instagram for more details @thecoventgardener.

I’m always hitting the streets and exploring new corners of the area, so if you see me out on the prowl, don’t hesitate to come and have a chat about our gorgeous Covent Garden!
