Issue 26

Where we celebrate reaching the grand old age of seven! Seven years of researching and commissioning, living and breathing Covent Garden. Together with the best team in the world we have brought you some fabulously entertaining, educational, and delightful stories about the area. You will have noticed that we have tweaked the focus just a touch in the past year, to also draw your attention to the connections between Covent Garden and Mayfair after a new addition to our family – The Mayfarer magazine.

Our Autumn 2022 ‘The Art of…’ Issue covers everything from conversations with Samuel Pepys and the magic of James St, to the intricate set designs of Theatre Royal, Alfred Hitchcock wreaking havoc in our market, and anthropology (Covent Garden style). We also have £150 of theatre tokens for you to win; find details on page 4.

Our biggest feature however celebrates the second Cover Art Competition, launched in our previous issue. The brief was to ‘Fly the Flag’ for Covent Garden and Mayfair by creating two separate images highlighting connections between the areas. Entries from students through to professional artists blew us away, and after much deliberation from our judges and the editorial team, Lorraine Ansell was chosen as our winner (full story on page 8). Soon to start the second year of her Masters in children’s book illustration, Lorraine’s playful cover images, which can be seen at Covent Garden Tube Station, have also been turned in to ‘Magazine Flags’ currently flying high outside Jubilee Market in The Piazza. We also have a limited amount of complimentary paper hand-held flags for you at The Dorchester’s Parcafé on Park Lane (read more on page 19 of The Mayfarer).

If you see me hovering under our flags either in Covent Garden or Mayfair please do come and say hello!
